Film Lessons: "Mountains of the Moon"

Some of the hardships that they faced, was a disease in the water called Maleria. (I dont know how to spell it). But yes a disease, bugs, shortage of food and water, some of the african people getting hurt, including the european guys. Another hard ship was that other African tribes tried to kill them and didn't like them. The river is probably called after a British Queen, because the Europeans are the one who discovered it, or because the guy in the movie who discovered the river first wanted it to be named that way, either those two theories. The advantage that the europeans had over the africans was that they had more advance weapons, more advanced stuff PERIOD!. The europeans easily conquered them because like i said the British had more advanced weapons then they did, so they destroyed or killed the tribes quickly.

Imperialism Project

We did the Imperialism Project, to learn more about the history of those expeditions and who owned which countries and what those countries were known and important for, (including Gold, Silver, etc). I learned that other countries fought each other for resources, and do own that country. And i remember that sugar cane, gold, silver were all at the caribbean's, Mexico, Africa etc. And we had to add coffins because some of the african people died from a disease called Maleria (something like that).

Karl Marx and Communism

Karl Marx's idea of communism was that all wealth would be distrubuted, and that all workers (no matter what occupation), shared the same amount of salary. Communism is when everybody shares the same amount of pay. And everything they have, is owned and made by there Government, NOTHING belongs to them personally. Marx wanted communism to take over the world cause he felt the Industrial Revolution would make things worse, and he didn't believe in it. The workers and the owner's (rich & poor), would always be fighting, those are the two people who he thought were good and bad.

Karl Marx and the Industrial Revolution

Karl Marx was a german who's ideas changed Russian History. He had his own thought about the Industrial Revolution, he did not like it. He wanted Communism for everybody. He felt the wealth should be distributed, and all workers should share the same amount of pay. But that didn't work out, and eventually communism failed.

Simon Bolivar and Latin American Revolutions

What Simon Bolivar accomplished was that he won freedom for many people and countries. These countries included Bolivia, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela. He also became the first president. And because of what he accomplished he got a country named after him. He defeated The Creoles in order to gain independence for Venezuela. Freedom and Independence is what he was fighting for. He was also influenced by The Enlightenment.

John Locke and "The Enlightenment"

The rights that Jefferson is talking about is that if anybody forms a new government, that the the people have to the right to like it and go along with it. And if they dont like it they have the right to get rid of it or fight against. They also have the right or make or form another goverment if they would like to.

The goverment comes from principles and organized powers, in such form that it could effect the people's happiness etc. And the goverments long-established way or working would not be changed for anything, and would stay the same always. The goverment gets its powers from the constent of the governed and men.

Copernicus and the trial of Galileo

There is two theories of the solar system. One is called the "Heliocentric" and the other called geocentric. The heliocentric one states that the earth and the planets revolve around the sun. And that the sun is stationery and at the center of the universe. And this is the theory many believe, because everything on earth would not be the same, if the earth was in the center and the sun revolved around it. The theory was against another one called "Geocentric".

The Geocentric theory stated that the Earth was in the center of the solar system and that other planets (including the moon & sun) revolved around Earth. This theory was opposed by another called "Heliocentric". Belief in this system came from mostly ancient Greece, similar ideas were made in China. This theory was proved wrong and now is not being used at all.

The Galileo's trial was about two different science beliefs. The Catholic Church put Galileo on trial because he had his own theory and that collided with another theory that was powered by Catholics. Galileo believe that the sun, stars and planets revolved around Earth. But Catholics believe that the Earth revolved around the sun, start etc. Soon the theory that was made by the Catholics were proved true, and currently is being used in science.

Scientific Revolution: The Scientific Method

The Scientific Method is a process and way of telling the truth or lie about a experiment or project. There's a simple version and a harder version, but Im gonna explain the simple one. Always observe the aspect of something. And then create a Hypothesis (which is also called an educated guess). You will use your hypothesis to create your own predictions of what will happen in you experiment. Test the predictions and check if your Hypothesis was correct. Repeat some of your process if you have to. Now, this whole process will make sure your experiment/Hypothesis was a theory or not.

One experiment that has or is using the Scientific Method, is the "Loch Ness Monster" case. They have used the method in that case because people believe or have supposedly seen a creature swimming in a lake. And scientists have tried to prove the theory but cannot because they never find the creature and don't have enough evidence. So like I said the Scientific Method was used to prove or not prove this theory.

Today the method is still used in class experiments in school.

Evolution Vs. Creation

Evolution is talking about how maybe us humans were developed from monkeys or other animals. Alot of scientists will argue that us humans were not created from god or anything in that category. Supposedly we were just born or created from Earth. In some pictures on the internet or in books, would show a monkey developing into a man. This is what scientists believe, but some other people have a different opinion on how we came about on Earth.

Creation is talking about how us humans were created and made from God. According to the Bible, God was the one who created us and taught us how to do the things we do now in life. In the Bible is says he created people in just 7 days. Scientists dont believe that we were created from God. As i said above they think we were developed from a monkey. People also say that because God made Adam & Eve, from there us humans were made.

My opinion on the fact is that i believe that we were created from God, i dont think that us men were made from a monkey. It makes NO sense to me soo I dont believe in the Evolution theory. I believ that god created us and showed us how to do the things we do. And i surely believe that Adam & Eve had something to do with us humans.
